Jim Webb To Stay In Senate and Fight

This guy just keeps amazing me (NySun):

Senator Obama lost another potential running mate yesterday when Senator Webb of Virginia took himself out of contention for the vice presidency. Mr. Webb, a freshman lawmaker elected less than two years ago, issued a statement yesterday in which he ruled out a spot on the Obama ticket. “Last week I communicated to Senator Obama and his presidential campaign my firm intention to remain in the United States Senate, where I believe I am best equipped to serve the people of Virginia and this country,” he said in a statement. “Under no circumstances will I be a candidate for vice president.”

The Senate is the best place for Webb, who has been true to his word and fought courageously for his constituents.  The Senate is a powerful place to be for someone not afraid to speak his or her mind.

  1. VP selection for both parties is a national strategy. You have to find someone who will:

Reflect or add to your Ideal Perceived Image

    Enhance “the ticket”

Have charisma but will not be overshadowing

Will seem like your best friend and well-wisher

Will actually not try to usurp your power, let alone media coverage once in office

Can draw votes you may not be able to (your swing state and beyond)

Avoid disrupting the Senatorial balance of power.

“Enhance the ticket”… Did I say that already? (see all of the above)
