The comments were closed on the Marge Simpson rape post. I just wanted to let you know that FOX did not have anything to do with that “Simpsons ad.” In fact, FOX banned that from airing on its network. It only airs on the internet and on Adult Swim. It was Family Guy’s doing, not FOX’s. Just for the record.

Do you equate dropping our entire economic system with giving more citizens access to health care?

Socialized medicine works, and it works well. It succeeds spectacularly where our current system fails. Our current systems fails the uninsured and the underinsured. It fails those who actually get sick, and its only purpose seems to be for healthy people to pay corporations to fail to care for the sick.

Beyond the substantial practical argument for single payer health care, there is the no less profound ethical argument. How can you sit there and comfortably say that there are people in this country who do not deserve medical care? Why should a police officer lose his insurance because his wife gets cancer? Why should a child be condemned to die because her insurer decides not to cover her because of the cost involved? Why should a woman with acne be denied coverage for cancer? These are all actual incidents and they are monstrous. They say the very worst things about our national character. Frankly, I expect far more from America. Don’t you?

And I sir, as a proud knee-jerk progressive liberal, think that Dan could not have gotten it more correctly. The dissapointment many of us feel over the seeming reluctance of Obama to make a stand, is what is leading to his lagging popularity. Keep up the good fight Dan. Peace to you.

Universal healthcare will doom this country because as we’ve seen socialism fails and capitalism that our country was founded on works. Howard Dean and John Kerry and Ted Kennedy have yet to understand this along with Lindsay Graham. These socialists like them and Bernie Sanders should be thrown out of Congress in 2010.

I don’t mean this post, at all, to disparage the police. I’ve written before about how police abuse of power damages what ought to be a healthy relationship between citizens and officers.

What I am advocating is that when officers do abuse the authority we give them as a society, we need to recognize the very toxic effect that has on our nation.

First off a “police men” PROTECT THE LAW” NOT THE PEOPLE! They only show up when the law is being broken and they can get a GOLD star arrest. They Can give two shits about what is realy going on in any situation. They act poorly upon anyone that they feel can be a threat. We are all human We are a threat to everything that can be consumed by us. Now that you put POWER hungry people in a unit and call them the police of the city now you have power hungry threats! I understand arrest of real crimes, i.e. Rape, Murder, Robery, ext. not charges on gonja or soliciting in the park. 10 years ago I remeber police just patrolled the city incase of any REAL crimes, Now they stop you if you have rims on your car and tinted window. Alot of my friends have 60,000 dollar cars and up with rims and tinted windows. THEY still get harrased! Where do you stand?

Can you explain how your position, supporting healthcare reform, is centrist? Thanks for attacking how well my post was written, great way to make your point. As for the President, did I make any mention of him bridging the partisan divide? What I blame him for is giving into lobbyists when he campaigned so fiercely against their power and access. I blame him for failing to put his foot down on an issue where 72% of Americans, including both of us, want to see him succeed. Compromise between the White House and lobbyists is quite a different thing between compromise between Democrats and Republicans. Though to drive this point home further, catering to Republicans does not lead to votes. Time and again they have shown they will vote against whatever this administration advocates for. Working for compromise with people who are perfectly happy telling their supporters to violently disrupt town hall meetings, and who spread lies about "death councils" will lead nowhere but failure.

As a proud centrist, I’m appalled by your characterization. A lot of us voted for Obama and wholeheartedly support healthcare reform. I’m also disconcerted that you attack the President for not being able to bridge the partisan divide. On one hand, you blame him for not reaching the opposition, while on the other, you blame him for trying to find compromise.
Although I agree with your position – favoring healthcare reform, this is a dreadfully poorly written post.

The double murder laws were enacted with the intent of sneaking personhood for fetuses into our legal code. A murder is a horrible and vile thing, and preying on the public's reaction to murder to sneak anti-choice legislation onto the books was highly disingenuous. To turn around and use that as justification for anti-choice arguments fools no one. And yes, actual murder. The murder of Dr Tiller was a brutal crime.
